MONTAGUE RECREATION MEETING MINUTES 7/11/2011

Montague Day will be September 10th, 2011- Bands- "The Symphonics" and the "Don Carver Band were approved by the Township Committee for a cost of $700.00 Tent for Montague Day and the Classic Car Show on Septmeber for a cost of $900.00 has also been approved.

Discussion of Recreation Accounts.

Adult Softball- Sundays at 4pm (we may be changing the time)

Fall Soccer- Coach Rick Brahm and Devin Lyon have let me know that Fall Soccer will begin on September 17th, 2011. Cost to play will be $10.00 soccer shirt additional $10.00 if wanted.

Flag Football- New Sport Program- Will be ran by Coach Bob Sturges Also starting on September 17th for ages 5-7 . Cost will be $15.00

Montague Day Update- Carnival Rides cost $3500.00 for 6 hours need to get approval at Township Meeting on Sept. 12th, 2011. Cost will be $1.00 per ride if 10 tickets are sold get 2 free tickets.

Food will be handled by Recreation for both Montague Day and the Car Show- Cost for Montague Day will be $1000.00 Cost for Car Show will be $500.00 Recreation will be charging for food, Prices of food and what kind of food was discussed.

We want to thank Mr. Baldini who DJ'ed our 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Dance for Free.

Grill will be put together by Glenn.

Indian Pow-Wow- Discussion

Scamp and Rascle Bike Run- Recreation has been asked to man the rest stop at High Point State Park again for a $200.00 Donation- all in favor

Further Discussion- about who would be responsible for things at Montague Day.

Mad Science- Looking into a future program for later in the year.

We are now on Facebook so please friend us on there.

Adult Education Classes were discussed- CPR< Defensive Driving, First Aid, We have someone interested in teaching these classes.

Free Concert at High Point State Park

Looking for a free evening of entertainment? The Friends of High Point are sponsoring a concert in the park at High Point State Park.

Date: Saturday, June 25, 2011
Raindate: Sunday, June 26, 2011

Time: 6 - 8 PM

Admission: FREE - to both the park (at this hour of the day it's free), and the concert is free as well.

Location: Beach area. Park in the beach parking lot.

Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and come enjoy some nice music.

The beach concession will remain open during the concert, serving hamburgers, hotdogs, fries, snacks, drinks, etc.

Discussion on cost of Live Wreath for Memorial Day Cost $50.00 approved
Rhodi Teufert to pick up wreath.

Groups have been contacted to participate in Memorial Day, Girl Scouts and Pioneer Youth Group will attend.

Recreaiton Shed will be delivered next week, cost $2600 was approved last year.

BBQ Grill to be purchased cost $189.00 for events.

6th, 7th and 8th Grade Graduating Class 2011 will be held at Montague Elementry School on Tuesday evening June 28th from 7-9pm cost to children will be $4.00. Live DJ with the music that they like will be provided by Live DJ Mr. Baldini. Chicken, Snacks, Juice and water will be included in the price.

Memorial Day- Discussion- Service will be held on Memorial Day at 10am at the Montague Municipal Building.

MONTAGUE RECREATION APRIL 4TH MEETING MINUTES

Update on 6th, 7th and 8th Grade 60's Dance- April 8th, 7-9pm Cost of event $200.00 for Live Band $six foot subs, drinks, chips cups plates ect... $100.00.

Easter Event- Recreation will be participating in a Joint Event at the Minisink Church Pavillion on April 23rd, 2011. Fire Department Breakfast with the Bunny will be held starting at 9am. Egg hunt and activities will follow at 11am. Recreation will purchase candy and table clothes for the event up to $300.00 has been approved for the event. Groups participating Minisink Church, Montague Fire Department, Montague Recreation and Community Corp of High Point.

Discussion on Carnival Rides for Montague Day. Dave to provide phone number so we can contact carnival company about cost for event. Do we want to make this a one day or two day event with the classic car show? More at out next meeting when we have more information.

Vendor Charge for Montague Day- Tabled till next meeting.

206 Ball Field Discussion- Porta potties will be ordered for both spring soccer and baseball/softball season. Baseball needed additional fields for practice. CCH has offerd to allow Montague Baseball use of their ball field.

Adult Dinner Dance Update- May 7th at Riverview Inn- Band the Symphonics $500.00, Decorations 79.87 and $101,51 cost to print tickets was $45.00.

Spring Soccer Update- will be a short session starting the end of april for four weeks cost is free to play. Flier will be printed and distributed.

Slogan Contest- Recreation likes the town slogan as it is now and is not interested in changing the slogan.

Ball field paint has been orderd and received for Baseball and Soccer cost $471.74 for 12 cases.

6TH, 7TH AND 8TH GRADE SOCIAL DANCE- AWAITING BUILDING USAGE FROM MONTAGUE SCHOOL. TENTIVE DATE WILL BE APRIL 8TH. 60'S DANCE.

ADULT DINNER DANCE (SENIOR PROM) WILL BE HELD AT THE RIVER VIEW INN DATE WILL BE MAY 8TH- 7-11PM WILL ASK FOR APPROVAL FROM TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE AT MEETING 3/8 FOR EXPENSES.

CARNIVAL RIDES/GAMES FOR MONTAGUE DAY- DISCUSSION

MONTAGUE DAY- TENTATIVE DATE WILL BE SEPTEMBER 10TH- DISCUSSION FOR BANDS AND EVENTS.

WILL LOOK INTO POSSIBLE TRIP TO NYC LATER IN THE YEAR DISCUSSION ON IDEAS FOR TRIP.

CANCER WALK WILL BE OCTOBER 15TH SPONSORED BY MONTAGUE RECREATION ALONG WITH HCC LOOKING INTO HAVING OTHER GROUPS JOIN IN THE EFFORT. MAIN EVENTS WILL BE HELD AT THE MUNICIPAL PARKING LOT. THE WALK ITSELF WILL BE AROUND THE LAKE AT HCC. MORE DETAILS TO COME SOON.

Attendance: All members present with the exception of Devon Lyon

6th, 7th and 8th Grade Dance- discussion- Recreation will be sponsoring a 60's dance checking with Montague School for building usage and date. There will be a live band and food six foot subs. Cost will be $4.00 per person.

Easter Egg Hunt will be on April 16th with a rain date of April 23rd, 12pm at the Municipal Building. HCC has expressed that it would like to work with the township for this event.

Senior Prom Dance- Discussion on venue, cost, band, theme, date, more info at next meeting.

Barn Dance- Planning for the early fall for all ages.

Adult Soc Hop- Discussion no set date yet.

Montague Day- Tentative date will be September 10th.

Holiday tree lighting event will be December 4th.

Memorial Day May 30th- Service at Municipal building time to be announced

Spring Soccer- will get hold of soccer coach and see if we will be holding spring soccer.

Adult Volleyball and Basketball times have been changed to 7:30-9:00

Will try to set up an account with WSUS Radio for weather closing of events.

Hi Everyone,

Montague Recreation is happy to announce we are planning more activites for this year, in addition to activites already in place. On Tuesday nights you can participate in adult volleyball at the Elementary School. This was a success last year and has continued to be a success this year. On Thursday nights we have adult basketball, also at the Elementary School. This is also successful and we'd love to have one and all join these groups and have a wonderful time.

On thing you will see that is being done differently this year is that there will be fees charged for some activities. The reason behind this is that it will help to offset costs, which in turn allows us to bring even more activities to everyone in the Township. New activities are being planned for people at every age in town.

The next activity we are planning is another 6th, 7th and 8th grade social. The dance will be a 1960's themed dance with music from the 60's. We encourage everyone to come in their best 60's outfits. There will be prizes for the top 3 costumes. Best of all, there will be a LIVE BAND for this event, along with snacks for everyone. There will be a $4 fee for this activity. As before, parents will need to sign your children when when you drop them off and sign them out when you come to pick them up. After all, safety is the most important thing.

Discussion about purchase of a shed for rec equipment. Will get price for 12x12 with no window with and without skylight.

Soccer update from Devon- He will be ordering tee-shirts for the children and getting costs for storage box for soccer nets and first aid kit.

Stamp and Rascle Bike Ride will be October 16th Montague Recreation will be working at rest stop at High Point State Park will pick up and deliver food from deli and hand out food for a $200.00 donation for Montague Recreation.

Montague Day and Classic Car show events

We have received an additional $200 donation from Al Johns to put toward the bounce houses and tents for Montague Day thanks to the kindness of George Zitone who painted over grafitti on Rt. 206.

Shop Rite card use for expenses for both events commission approved up to $600.00 for purchase of soda coffee desert donoughts coffee ect....

We have over 2 dozen vendors and civic groups so far and list is growning will be working on set up of placement at next rec meeting.

Janet and Meg have been working on give aways for the day from local business have had a very nice response and have some very nice items to give away. Not listing here what they are to be a surprise. The commission knows.

Have vouchers for Charlie Teufert to sign for entertainment and events at Montague Day.

Application for Temporary Food Vendors has been supplied from the Board of Health

Danielle Dieckman- Will be at Montague Day and will host 2 special tea parties with some young ladies who would like to join her. Sign ups will take place on Montague Day as space is limited.

Thank you letter was sent to Chris Jones, Public and Community Relations Manager, El Paso Corporation, Houston TX for their generous donation of $1000.00 to sponsor the Classic Car show on October 10th.

September 1st- Preschool Reading arts and crafts has been approved 1pm -1:45 pm the story will be "Froggy Goes to School" and there will be a painting arts and crafts frog project cost is free to Montague Pre-Schoolers.

Fall Soccer Discussion on when sign ups will be- More at next meeting

Basketball nets- When trying to put up the nets they only fit one of the rims the other two not being the same rim. One rim is missing clips for nets. All rims will be looked at to see which ones need to be replaced/repaired and correct nets and damaged rims will be ordered. In the mean time anyone wishing to play can use the hoops at the municipal building as they are.

Bike Ride-a-thon October 16th- Recreation has been asked to pick up food at DB's Deli and help set up and man a station at High Point State Park for Stamp and Rascle Bike ride for a $200.00 donation to recreation. Dave Gibson and Meg Snyder will help.

Montague Day Update- Opening Ceremony, Entertainment, Food, Donations, Vendors (which we are getting a good response from) were discussed. Vendor Space is $20.00 for the day. Some vendors will be returning on October 10th for the Classic Car Show that day is at no charge to vendors a donation to Montague Recreation would be appreciated.

Prior Montague Day tee shirts have been returned to Charlie Teufet and will be put in the rec closet so we can see how many we have and decide what to do with them.

Pre-School- Reading and arts and crafts will resume on September 1st for pre-schoolers we will be doing the story "Froggy Goes to School" (Paper plate painting frog craft) This is free and is held at the Montague Municipal Building on September 1st at 1pm. For more information please call Meg at 973-293-8033. (This is a great story a lot of fun for children who are going to either pre-school or kindergarten for the first time.

Classic Car Show- October 10th discussion on how we can help with event.

Children age 4-7 Summer Fun Days. Equipment has just been received for this and Montague Day events. See flier in blogs for more information. We have had several parents ask us if we could provide something for this age group.

Basketball Clinic- was discussed and details will be worked out (Barbara Holstein)

Games for Montague Day were discussed.

Food for Montague Day- Looking for food vendors as well as other vendors to attend

Security for Montague Day discussed- (Mary Kopetsky)

Donation of Movie Screen and sound equipment from HCC for evening entertainment at Montague Day.

Sign out equipment sheet will be posted in recreation closet (recreation members only)

Devon Lyon will see what is other closet that Charlie Teufert told recreation about.

Charlie Teufert to provide vendor and volunteer list from last years Montague Day to recreation.

Recreation accounts were discussed.

Retention of paperwork and handing over of paperwork to next commission was discussed as the present commission has had nothing but issues with getting past information. This will not occur in the future.

Recreation Meeting Minutes June 7th, 2010

Miss Montague Day- Lori Coss and Blennie Kelly came to explain event It will be sponsored by the Montague Fire Dept. It will be held at the Fire House on July 17th, 2010 at 1:00 pm.
Miss Montague must be between the ages of 17 and 21 years there is also Jr. Miss Montague, Little Miss Montague and Little Mr. Montague. Refreshments will be served and Gifts and prizes for all participants for more information and for application please call Lori at 973-293-3135.

Thank you card has been sent to Rhodi Teufert for Memorial Day.

Discussion Montague Day, Meg to call Fire Dept re- Date as problem with getting all groups who wish to participate together on the same day due to prior commitments. Hopefully this will be set in stone soon. If any one would like to be a vendor (vendor forms are waiting approval) at Montague Day or Volunteer to help or if your group would like to participate please let us know.

Discussion on items to be purchased for Montague Day and other pending sports programs discussed and approved. Will be presented for approval from township committee at June 15th township meeting.

Adult Softball will be every other Sunday at Rt 206 field starting June 27th through end of August. Games start at 1pm Bring your own Mitt and be ready to play no sign up required. Free to adults age 18 and up.

Montague Yard Sale June 12th - Bring your stuff to town hall to sell.

Volley ball net to be put up at Montague municipal building. Need to see what is required and where township committee will approve place for set up. To be asked about at June 15th township meeting.

Planning stages of summer basketball once purchase of nets are approved stay tuned for update coming soon.

Our Next Recreation Meeting will be Monday July 12th at 7pm at the municipal building. Due to 4th of July Holiday.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Miss Montague Day Pageant- Lori Coss and Jessie Brace to discuss at Fire Dept. meeting tonight to give update on event at June Recreation Meeting. Recreation Donation $250.00

Montague Day Cake Donation- Janet Woodenberg attended and styles of cake and cake designs were discussed- to be discussed more to finalize at next meeting.

Montague Day- Rhodi Teufert came to discuss $100.00 will be requested at next township meeting for carnations for our Veterans and to replace the wreath. Howard Smith will be providing the music and the event will be Memorial Day at 10am at Town Hall.

May 14th 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Social- Update from Barbara Holstein everything is in place and ready to go for the event.

Recognition for April 6th 7th and 8th grade social thank yous will be going to those who volunteered and help with the event.

Approval For Montague Day -Community Rental Center for tent and 2 bounce houses Vote (all in favor)

Donation of horse shoe set from Kathy Bullis for Montague Day, Donation of Arcade stuffed animals from Patrica Snyder for Montague Day prizes.

Hula Hoop Demo Heather Bonnie- Meg will contact and see if she will be able to attend Montague Day.

Radio Stations Inquiry for Montague Day- Update from Mary Kopetsky- after decussion price is to high however we can advertise the event on the radio,

Meeting was began at municipal building at 7pm at the picnic table because no-one was present to open the building.A brief rain shower caused us to move the meeting to A & J Pizza.

First action to be taken was to vote in Devon Lyons to fill the one year open alternate seat Vote- Meg, Mary and Barbara all voted yes

The Easter Egg Hunt was a success and all agreed to send Shop-Rite and the Fire Department thank you notes.

Middle School 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Social was approved at $400.00. The D.J. has been contracted for $300....the company comes highly recommended by several community members.The remaining $100 will be used for food and drinks, however there are several parents volunteering to help with food and drinks. Kim C. has given the use of her popcorn and hot dog machine. Dianne B is working on donations of condiments and hot dogs. Barbara will be talking to Shop-Rite for donations needed for remaining items that are needed, or will purchase them with the Shop-Rite card.Barbara will check the recreation storage closet for paper products to use at the social. Barbara will see Toni- Lu to request a check for the DJ to be ready on the 16th.

The School Board approved to allow recreation for Adult Volley Ball to continue till May 25th.

Meg will be holding reading and arts and crafts at the municipal building on April 27th. Building use approved.

206 field nets- Discussion took place there were concerns that the field is not used enough. Previous project grant for bleachers at field has not been completed, and the brush has been cut back significantly at this time to help with retrieving of foul balls. Also recreation commission would consider funding for the purchase of "lost" baseballs as alternative to the expense of a net in the future if needed. Glen we need to get an update from Glen about the donated rink and getting it here to Montague. Steve Taylor was mentioned as possibly being able to help get it from Jefferson. The pad for the rink could be included with the heliport site project.

the two Montague baseball fields this Sunday (04-11-10) starting at 12
noon, We will be working at both Zitone field and the 206 field. We
have dug-out cleanup . grounds maintenance. hanging fence signs,
bleacher repairs and painting projects planned. If possible bring
tools example: rake , shovel ,broom, brush loppers weed-wacker . Meet
either at Zitone or 206 starting at 12 noon but feel free to come later
after church ,CCD etc. We appreciate all the help we can get. The
Kittatinny Little League has said "Zitone Field is the nicest in the
league,the kids love playing there", This is because of The Parents of
Montague Baseball and help from Landscapers Tom Ransom & Wally
Costa. The 206 field is starting to take shape the clay has been
delivered and spread on the fields , but there is a lot of work to be

the fields.

206 field Nets - Discussion took place there were concerns that field
is not used enough, previous project grant for bleachers at field has
not been completed, and the brush has been cut back significantly at
this time to help with retrieving fouls balls. Also, recreation
commission would consider funding for the purchase of “lost” baseballs
as alternative to the expense of a net in the future if needed.

Vote to fund the Nets: Barbara- No, Meg –No, Mary – No, Devon –No.

Memorial Day – Barbara is going to contact Rhodi Tuefert about the
celebration event. Rhodi will be organizing the event. The suggestion
was made to involve the local VFW and Mr. Snyder and Mr. Benson.

Miss Montague Day: Meg reported that this celebration will be handled
by the Fire Department and Lori Coss, and will not be a Montague
Recreation activity, nor are any funds from Montague Recreation needed
for this celebration/contest.

Adult softball games – will be on May agenda. Looking to start games in
June at the field on 206. Barbara will verify the girl’s softball use
of the fields on Sundays.

Soccer – Devon is going to contact Rick Braum about soccer and there
was discussion to have spring soccer next year, in addition to fall
soccer.

Karate – Program to be started in September by Chris. Will need to come
up with program details and flyer. Also, will need to complete a
building use form for use of school gym for August BOE meeting.

Montague Day –

The date is Saturday, September 25th, 2010. Rain or Shine.

Mary is going to contact radio stations about attending the event.

Meg is going to start advertising for VENDORS for the event – we
discussed vendor fee and voted unanimously that $25.00 for outside the
tent and $50.00 for those vendors under the tent.

Mary will be contacting Civic Groups about attending the event.

Meg reported that the Fire Dept will be doing food. Montague Seniors
will be doing pizza, and Janet Woudenberg will be donating a very very
large specialty cake.

A food drive for local pantries will take place at the event.

Devon is going to investigate building several “kid activities” such as
bag toss, lollypop tree, etc. Opposed to buying or renting these items.
Request for materials will be made at May meeting.

Glen – We need to get an update from Glen about the donated rink and
getting the rink here to Montague…Steve Taylor was mentioned as
possibly being able to help with getting the rink from Jefferson. The
pad for the rink could be included with the heli port site project.
NOTE April 7, 2010 just spoke to Glen. The rink is not happening.

The Parents of Montague Baseball will be conducting a work day at
the two Montague baseball fields this Sunday (04-11-10) starting at 12
noon, We will be working at both Zitone field and the 206 field. We
have dug-out cleanup . grounds maintenance. hanging fence signs,
bleacher repairs and painting projects planned. If possible bring
tools example: rake , shovel ,broom, brush loppers weed-wacker . Meet
either at Zitone or 206 starting at 12 noon but feel free to come later
after church ,CCD etc. We appreciate all the help we can get. The
Kittatinny Little League has said "Zitone Field is the nicest in the
league,the kids love playing there", This is because of The Parents of
Montague Baseball and help from Landscapers Tom Ransom & Wally
Costa. The 206 field is starting to take shape the clay has been
delivered and spread on the fields , but there is a lot of work to be

Meeting was begun at the municipal building at 7:00 pm at the picnic
table because no one was present to open the building. A brief rain
shower caused us to move the meeting to J and J pizza.

First action was to vote in Devon Lyons to fill the needed open

The Easter Egg Hunt was a success and all agreed to send Shop Rite and
the Fire Department thank you notes.

Middle School 6-7-8 grade Social was approved at $400.00. The DJ has
been contracted for $300.00…the company has been highly recommended by
several community members. The remaining $100.00 will be used for food
and drinks, however there are several parents volunteering to help with
food and drinks. Kim C has given us use of a popcorn and hotdog
machine. Diane B. is working on donations of condiments and hotdogs.
Barbara will be talking to Shop Rite about donations of remaining items
that are needed, or will purchase them using the Shop Rite card.
Barbara will check out the Recreation storage room for paper products
to use at the social. Barbara will see Toni Lu to request a check for
the DJ to be ready on the 16th.

6th, 7th and 8th Grade Social- Barbara Holstein gave update- Montague School has approved two dates April 16th and May 14th- Discussion followed with the commission agreeing on a dance/ sub sandwich event for April 16th cost of $400 to be presented to Township Committee on March 23rd for approval to proceed.

Price for nets Rt. 206 fields ( Dave Gibson is waiting for quotes) cost of clay and nets not to exceed $3000. Discussion on cost for doing 2 sections of netting instead of 4 sections waiting on cost breakdown.

Easter Egg Hunt will be March 27th at 12pm at Montague Municipal Building, Discussion $250.00 will be requested at the march 23rd Township Committee meeting to purchase candy for egg hunt. Available commission members will meet at 10am at town hall to set up event.

Miss Montague Day- Discussion on cost- Waiting for more information before planning event.

Montague Day Discussion- Meg had spoken to Ruth Owen President of Montague Seniors, the seniors will again be selling pizza.

Pre-school Story arts and crafts- Meg gave update that there were children who came on March 15th and the next one will be March 30th, Meg will ask for permission to continue and ask for dates in April the 13th and 27th.

Dave was asked at one point by Joe Barbagallo what do we need in town? Another field on Route 206.

The original plan had four fields

Now there are two fields, need blueprints and township support. Rookies need a field. What do blueprints cost?

Darren will talk to Township Engineer; the Township Committee will want sealed prints.

The Budget is estimated to be $15,000.

Daren Ponce did tell us the Recreation Commission could delegate subcommittees.

Tri-State Rentals has many items available for entertainment.

Monday Feb.22 at 4pm is the next Township Budget meeting, if recreation members available they are asked to attend. Barbara format the budget for presentation.

February 1st Recreation Meeting Minutes

7:15pm Meeting begins

Present- Meg Snyder, Barbara Holstein, Jody Case Kennedy, Mary Kopetsky, Glen Goodyear, Dave Gibson

Also Present- Toni Lu Martin, Darren Ponce, Terry Snyder

Riel Pierbooms from Trail Blazers spoke about their facilities and the possible use by Montague residents. Planning a summer day camp that Montague residents aged 5-14 could attend. Discussion continued with those present regarding possible uses. Open house is planned for Earth Day April 17th.

Toni Lu asked to be put in charge of Montague Day 2010. Dave Gibson made motion, seconded by Jody Case Kennedy. Voted all in favor

Montague Day is to be held September 25th, 2010 planning to begin in February.

Discussion about Miss Montague Day 2010. Meg will contact Lori Coss and ask her to attend an upcoming meeting.

Barbara Holstein spoke about "Tween" night for early teens to be held at the school one night in February, April and May. planned to have basketball, volleyball and area for teens to sit and talk. Awaiting confirmation that Board of Education has approved use.

Glen Goodyear mentioned the desire to start a basketball program similar to the soccer program already in place during the winter. Dave Gibson spoke about restarting a wrestling program.

A recreation budget workshop meeting to be held Feb. 8th, 2010 at 6:30pm Regular meetings will be held the first Monday of the month at 7pm.

Toni Lu requested permission to have 206 Flea Market sell excess Montague Day shirts for $10 each. Barbara Holstein made the motion seconded by Meg Snyder voted all in favor
